Introduction

VentICalc was introduced in the first COVID-19 episode to aid medical professionals in intensive care units all over the world to deliver safe mechanical ventilation. The app uses several parameters to improve ventilator safety settings and to help professionals to deliver state-of-the art ventilation.

What makes 'VentiCalc' unique?

Though VentiCalc originated during the peak COVID-19 crisis, the application is still relevant in the space of safe mechanical ventilation for patients. A lot of on-ground experience from ICU intensivists and years of knowledge accumulated around mechanical ventilation come into action within this application.

An easy-to-use application for this problem was yet to be found and we previously used Excel sheet calculations. The main issue during COVID-19 crisis was an easy-to-access device or app to quickly make assessments on measurements from mechanical ventilators. The application comes from the medical professionals and is builtfor the medical professionals. It is an example of applying theoretical and practical knowledge together in one place.

Why not a ready-made solution?

We were looking for a company able to deliver a working app in a very short time without requiring us to have technical knowledge.  Webbit21 and the WEM no-code platform enabled us to rapidly add features that were needed in the ICU.

The app offers state-of-the art mechanical ventilation calculators in a clean and intuitive interface. Patients on mechanical ventilation might have suboptimal ventilation and this can lead to lung injuries and other complications. With VentiCalc's prompts on each measurement, the chances of such complications and injuries can be drastically reduced. Moreover, this app can be also used for training purposes for new recruits to get used to setting the right values for each type of mechanical ventilator.
